Overview

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay released the official Tamil Nadu Government Anti-Drug Awareness Song — "Un Thalai Nimira" (உன் தலை நிமிர — "Raise Your Head / Hold Your Head High") — on June 25–26, 2026, ahead of the global International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking (International Anti-Drug Day), observed every year on June 26.

"Un Thalai Nimira" — "Hold Your Head High" — is a call to Tamil Nadu's youth to rise above drug addiction and choose a brighter future.

The song was released as part of Tamil Nadu's broader anti-drug campaign coordinated by the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu (SDAT) under the direct guidance of Sports Development Minister Aadhav Arjuna. The release was timed to coincide with the anti-drug marathon launched by CM Vijay at Anna Memorial on June 26, in which over 10,000 participants from all 38 districts took part.

About the Song

The title "Un Thalai Nimira" (உன் தலை நிமிர) translates to "Raise your head" or "Hold your head high" — a direct, powerful message to young people in Tamil Nadu to resist drugs and walk forward with dignity and pride. The phrase carries cultural weight in Tamil — a raised head symbolises self-respect, courage and moral standing.

Vivek's lyrics carry the characteristic emotional depth that made him one of Tamil cinema's most impactful voices. Though he passed away in April 2021, his lyrical legacy continues — and this government awareness song stands as one of his posthumous contributions to Tamil public life. Vivek was well known for weaving social messages into accessible, emotionally resonant language.

S. S. Thaman's music composition gives the anthem a contemporary, energetic feel — designed to connect with Tamil Nadu's youth rather than feel like a traditional government public service announcement. Thaman's score combines motivational energy with emotional warmth.

Context — Anti-Drug Campaign
