Jana Nayagan was the first film to release while its hero was serving as Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu — only the second time this has happened, after M. G. Ramachandran. Directed by H. Vinoth with music by Anirudh Ravichander, it closed Vijay’s 34-year, 69-film career with record celebrations in theatres across Tamil Nadu and overseas, and kept its pull on streaming long after its theatrical run.
A 100-day run was once the surest sign of a blockbuster in Tamil cinema, and fans have long marked it with posters and functions. No official 100-day event has been announced by the makers so far. We will update this story if one is announced.
