On Thursday, September 17, 2026 — the 148th birth anniversary of Thanthai Periyar, observed in Tamil Nadu as Social Justice Day — Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay led the Social Justice Day pledge at the Secretariat, the same morning he returned from his UK investment tour.
In his tribute, the Chief Minister remembered Periyar as the leader who sowed the progressive ideas of self-respect, social justice and rationalism in people’s minds, and who fought all his life to remove caste and religious divisions and win back people’s rights.
