Rural families in Tamil Nadu who complete their full quota of guaranteed work will now get 25 more days of paid work, funded entirely by the State. The Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department issued an order on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, giving administrative sanction for the move, which Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay directed so that support can reach up to 150 days a year.
| Priority group | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Women-headed households and single women | Most rural job-scheme workers in Tamil Nadu are women |
| Households with differently-abled members | Extra income for families with higher care costs |
| Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe households | Landless families depend most on wage work |
| Forest Rights Act, 2006 beneficiaries | Tribal and forest-dwelling families |
After Parliament repealed the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, 2005, the Union government launched the Viksit Bharat – Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin), or VB-G RAM G, across India. It came into force in Tamil Nadu on July 1, 2026 with a legal guarantee of 125 days of work a year, up from 100. In the Assembly in August, the Minister said the scheme’s total outlay in Tamil Nadu this year is about ₹12,643 crore, shared 60:40 between the Centre and the State.
VETRI 150 goes one step further: the State will pay for the extra 25 days on its own, so the poorest working families are not left without income once the central guarantee runs out.
The order does not give the expected number of households or person-days. We will update this page when the department publishes district-wise details.
